If you live outside Los Angeles, you can still contact DFG LAW, APC about a California personal injury matter. Our office is in Los Angeles, and we serve clients throughout the state. A phone consultation can help determine whether the matter fits our practice and what arrangements would be needed.
Start with the location and facts of the incident
Tell us where and when the incident happened, where you live now and who was involved. A move after an accident does not erase the importance of the original location. These details help identify records, possible responsible parties and practical issues for handling the matter. We assess each case individually before agreeing to representation.
Prepare a short consultation packet
A useful packet can be simple: a one-page timeline, the incident report number if available, photographs, insurance letters and a list of treatment providers. Do not delay contacting us just because a document is missing. Explain what you have and what remains unavailable.
For the first website inquiry, provide a brief description and a way to reach you. Ask the office how to send detailed records and large files. Keep original documents and original photo or video files; a screenshot may omit details contained in the original.
Agree on how communication will work
Discuss your preferred language, available times and the best way to reach you. Ask who will handle routine questions, how important developments will be communicated and how to notify the office if your contact information changes. If a family member is helping, clarify their role and what information may be shared.
The State Bar of California encourages clients to discuss communication and working style and to understand the services and costs in a written fee agreement. These questions matter whether your lawyer is nearby or in another part of the state.
Understand fees and case costs
Before signing, ask what work the agreement covers, how attorney fees are calculated, which expenses are separate and who is responsible for costs under different outcomes. Ask about any steps outside the agreed scope. Read the agreement and keep a copy. A free initial consultation does not by itself mean the firm has agreed to represent you.
Will you need to travel?
Do not assume that every step can be completed remotely. Ask which meetings or proceedings may require attendance and how scheduling will be handled. The answer may change as the case develops. Tell the office about work, mobility, caregiving or language needs early so they can be considered when planning.
Keep the case organized between updates
- Save new insurance letters, bills and relevant receipts as they arrive.
- Keep a record of treatment providers and appointment dates.
- Notify your lawyer promptly about a new deadline, settlement offer or request to sign a document.
- Report changes in your address, telephone number or email.
- Preserve relevant messages and original evidence rather than deleting or altering them.
